Facebook Twice as Much Fun as Google?
The stats are in (comScore’s anyway), that indicate that in terms of web domains, Google.com may still be boss in terms of number of users, but people are spending more time tuned into Facebook.com – to the tune of 15.5 billion minutes more last month alone. Here’s the data – look at similar numbers of visits per month but much more time spent per visit on the Facebook side:
I’m not sure I’d describe Yahoo.com as the cheese in this sandwich, but it is clear that Facebook is a major online media force in terms of user engagement with over 7.5% of ALL ONLINE MINUTES spent on Facebook.com. Let’s not even talk about integrating them into other websites yet…

Interesting data but it’s apples and oranges. Facebook wants people to stay on their site and builds and enables tools to drive to that goal. Google, on the other hand, helps people to get where they are going so an actual KPI they track (and try to decrease) is time on site. If both succeed at what they are doing, the Minutes per visit or per unique will continue to diverge.
A good point – although the point of the post was to point out the sheer size and mass of Facebook. And in a world where people still think of “exposure”, time is a relevant metric. The truth is that each second of time on Google (as measured by advertiser dollars) is probably worth at least 20-100 times what that second is on Facebook. That math will last for a while for sure…
